Brand
Telect is an established brand in a challenging industry with a tempered history of innovation. Nearly 30 years of operation is an awesome story for any business, especially in technology. Unfortunately, our success has led to others counterfeiting our products, logos, pictures, and copy. While this may be the best form of flattery, we would welcome their original ideas, creativity and competition in the marketplace. Telect has earned and upholds a great reputation, but these counterfeit companies have caused confusion and tainted our name. Telect is now refining its brand and working to free itself of misrepresentations. Join us in stopping the counterfeits and staying on-board with the true Telect brand!

DNA
by Wayne Williams, President & Chief Executive Officer

How do we define ourselves at Telect? What characteristics are built into all that we do?

First of all, I like simplicity. My wife often comments on my "lean manufacturing" approach to everything because with everything I see, I try to "lean it out” – from the lines at Disneyland to the design of a product to the way approvals and controls happen within our business. At Telect, we aren't perfect, but we strive for excellence. It is in the entrepreneurial DNA of my family to try to clean things up, create opportunity, and work hard for something you believe in.

When you hire on with Telect, or when you buy our products, you want the company to perform better than it did before. As an employee, you want to create new products and develop new solutions for customers, colleagues, suppliers, shareholders, and the community. We want you to participate in Telect’s growth.

We believe we are in a constant state of change in order to remain relevant to all who interface with us. When you work at or with Telect, change is embraced and improvement is perpetual.
Stewardship
At Telect, we strive to be good stewards. We feel it is our responsibility to be exceptional citizens within our own communities hopefully creating a ripple effect that contributes to the greater good.
Charitable
Telect's corporate philanthropy program is an important benefit for our employees, as well as a way in which we support our communities and our strategic business plan. Our philosophy is to support organizations that enhance the quality of life in the communities where we live and work, with a specific emphasis on supporting our shareholders’ passions and our employees’ personal interests. We look for opportunities that help us reinforce and emphasize our corporate cultural beliefs. Telect achieves these goals through corporate, matching and in-kind gifts.

Telect believes in helping those less fortunate in our communities and supports organizations dedicated to educating and empowering people to achieve personal growth and success. Special consideration is given to organizations serving marriage, families and children – especially through ministry work.

Engineering, Sciences and Entrepreneurial Development
As a player in the communications networks across multiple industries, Telect stays involved with area colleges and universities to promote education in engineering and the sciences. We believe that entrepreneurial innovation and leadership development through support of new business ventures is first and foremost to a vibrant private sector economy.

Telect values sustainable growth in the local communities and as such supports civic and community organizations working to enhance the quality of life for its citizens and area businesses.

Environmental
Telect is committed to responsible corporate citizenship, and nowhere is that more crucial than in how we respect our environment. Key initiatives to reduce waste, reuse materials, and generally minimize our impact on the environment are a part of everyday life at Telect. These efforts are built into the way we engineer products and deliver services, as well as how our employees approach their work.

Product Design
Telect engineers environmental considerations into every step of the product development process, from materials selection to packaging and delivery methodologies. Telect is committed to eliminating banned substances and reducing other materials of concern from our products while maintaining a watchful eye on quality, reliability and product performance.

Responsible Packaging
At Telect, our first priority is to protect the products we ship to customers. Within this framework, however, we strive to minimize the amount of materials used with every item we deliver. Non-dyed, recyclable cardboard is the primary packaging material, and whenever possible, cardboard is used within the box to provide further protection. Telect is committed to innovation in packaging materials to further reduce product cost.

Energy Efficiency
Increasing the efficiency of facilities simply makes sense. Telect continually strives to reduce the amount of energy used in its facilities through efforts such as consolidating the location of employees and utilizing equipment efficiently.

Waste Reduction and Recycling
Telect adheres to strict standards for recycling all viable materials in each of its facilities worldwide. Recycling programs for cardboard, printed circuit boards (PCBs) and sheet metal, to name a few items, all follow specific guidelines to ensure that materials are reused whenever possible.

Hazardous Materials Management
Telect's facilities staff works to ensure safe and proper management of hazardous materials and waste, including their handling, disposal, storage, and shipment. Key initiatives in place also help to ensure compliance with company and legal requirements for the management of hazardous waste and materials.

Commute Trip Reduction
Telect actively encourages commute trip reduction with its employees by helping to establish carpool programs, participating in community-wide efforts to encourage alternative transportation, and by enabling employees to telecommute or otherwise develop flexible work schedules. As with all environment-related efforts, every bit helps.

Supplier Responsibilities
Telect maintains high standards in its relationships with suppliers. By encouraging suppliers to be environmentally responsible, to meet the standards of RoHS directives, and to generally adhere to high standards of corporate citizenship, Telect can continue to have a positive influence on the environment in the communities where we do business.

Restriction of Hazardous Subtances (RoHS)
Due to global environmental concerns, the need for lead-free solutions in electronic components and systems is receiving increased attention. RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is expected to be the first of many environmental directives to be issued that will have a profound effect on global trade.

This initial directive took effect on July 1, 2006, and bans cadmium, hexavalent chromium, lead, mercury, PBBs (polybrominated biphenyls), and PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) from electrical and electronic products and their component parts offered for sale into the European Union. China has enacted similar legislation on restriction of hazardous substances, which took effect on March 1, 2007.

Telect has a strong history of compliance with both US and international environmental requirements. Through collaboration with industry peers and suppliers, along with a dedicated internal team, we are able to consistently ensure the performance and reliability of all products to Telect standards and environmental requirements. Through this effort, Telect has achieved compliance to both the European RoHS directive (5 of 6, effective July 1, 2006), and the Chinese RoHS directive (effective March 1, 2007).

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE) addresses the problem of product recycling and requires products to be labeled to identify participation in the program. To comply with the WEEE directive, Telect has incorporated use of the EU-approved "double-crossed wheelie bin" symbol, affixed to Telect products when delivered into all European countries.

As Telect continues with further compliance efforts for the WEEE directive, we will seek to identify and establish relationships with designated collection facilities (DCF's) for a product takeback program, along with authorized treatment facilities (ATF's) to process WEEE and provide evidence to producers on the amount of WEEE received for treatment.
Financial
The word "volatile" doesn't begin to describe the telecom industry throughout the past three decades. From deregulation to the dot-com boom, downsizing to explosive growth, telecom service providers and equipment suppliers have faced virtually every experience imaginable.

Telect has survived this volatility and is positioned well to continue its current path of growth into the near future. Debt-free private ownership highlights Telect today, with financial decision-making guided by core values, calculated risk, and a spirit of entrepreneurialism and innovation.

While competitors have merged, been purchased, or ceased to exist, Telect has continued to lead our industry with the most complete range of physical layer infrastructure solutions available from a single source.
Social
Strong values that helped to form Telect in 1982 are still part of everything we do today. Whether we're supporting a local charity, participating in a community event, taking an active role in higher education on a local scale, or just supporting employees who work in the community, activism is part of the Telect culture.

Take the greater Spokane area, where Telect's headquarters reside. Recent community-related activities include sponsorship and team participation in Spokane's Bloomsday, Hoopfest and Race for the Cure events. Employees at our Plano, Texas, facility regularly support the North Texas Food Bank, while the Telect de Mexico team stays involved with a local orphanage and food bank.

Above all, this spirit of participation and involvement permeates day-to-day life at Telect, creating a positive work environment and a place where employees are proud to say they work.
Vision / Purpose
  • We exist to create solutions for our customers through innovative design and excellent service so communication networks become stronger.
  • We believe all people who interface with Telect should be treated with respect and dignity.
  • We believe an innovative environment means anything can be created in our area of expertise, and we strive to create solutions that our customers don't even know they need yet.
  • We believe we are in business to make a profit, and we reinvest those profits into Telect.
  • We believe our customers deserve great care, and while they aren't always right, we treat every situation with respect and urgency to find a solution that is best.
  • We believe confrontation is necessary and often produces heat that leads to sharpened steel. Telect does not run from problems.
  • We believe that designing and manufacturing the highest quality products possible helps our customers and Telect sleep better.
  • We believe our employees are part of a team and must give an effort that is greater than our best competitor each and every day.
  • We believe we can do more with little. Our ability, tenacity, hunger, and drive allow us to treat more customers the way they want to be treated.
  • We believe we are on Earth a short time and that our work environment, time with our customers, suppliers, community, and employees should create positive energy.
That's Telect – our people, our products, our values, and our mission. We simplify networks.
